Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is an ancient healing practice with shamanic roots originating in the hills of the Tibetan Plateau.  Qigong is a form of energy cultivation (qi = energy and gong = practice/skill) that utilizes the breath along with movement and intention.  This allows the flow of energy in the body to move more freely, thus bringing the individual in alignment with mind, body and spirit.

Qigong is the oldest branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is becoming increasingly popular in the West, especially to aid with stress reduction.  Through deep breathing and meditative, intentional movement, many people find qigong to be very relaxing.  It can also reverse many ailments and helps to reduce the suffering caused by mental anguish and physical pain by allowing the qi to flow harmoniously throughout the body.   These practices are based upon the 5 Element Theory in Chinese Medicine, which suggests we all have innate qualities such as integrity, unconditional love, kindness, trust, and wisdom.  A regular qigong practice can help to bring us in alignment with these innate qualities and increase our overall vitality and well-being.

Qigong healing can also be experienced by receiving ‘qi’ from a qualified energy practitioner that specializes in TCM.  During a healing session, the practitioner projects energy from her hands onto the energetic body of the client.  She can then direct the energy to flow in a more harmonious manner while the client rests in a meditative state.  This type of energy healing is often referred to as Medical Qigong and is another branch of TCM.
